Preparation for Hanoi

I will be going to Hanoi on this coming 24/1 till 27/1 with my office-mate, Zura. Therefore, I would like to share with you guys my preparation so far :)

1) Ticket
I had bought a return ticket with Air Asia during their promotional period. The seat price only cost me 11 cents! hahaha.. However, the total cost for return ticket is RM 314.22
Here's the breakdown:
  • Tickets + Airport Tax + Fuel Surcharge = RM 192.22
  • 2 x Check-in Baggage = RM 70
  • Seat selection = RM 12
  • Meals = RM 24
  • Processing Fees = RM 16

2) Hotel/Accomodation
Since Zura has experience going to Vietnam, I let her decide on which hotel to book. She booked Hanoi Star 3 Hotel Deluxe Room - Twin Double which cost us only USD 45 per night.
Here is the website for easy reference: http://www.hanoistarhotel.com.vn/

3) Currency Change
There are two major currencies accepted in Hanoi; USD and Vietnamese Dong (VD). You are advised to change your currency to USD and also a little bit of Vietnamese Dong prior your departure. Heard from my friend that the Vietnamese love USD so much..so before pegi sana, just tukar USD byk2 kat Malaysia and then cari kedai emas kat Vietnam utk tukar Dong.

4) Kedai Makan Halal
There is one famous restaurant in Hanoi called Nisa Restaurant. I think it is located just 5 mins walk from my hotel. Kedai ni mmg famous. Rata-rata yg pegi Hanoi akan recommend kedai ni (based on my reading on other blogs) You can go at the website: http://www.nisa-restaurant.com/
From Google

5) Important Things to Bring
  • Calculator - senang nak shopping memandang kan Vietnamese they are not so good in English..so nak communicate nnt ssah..tekan calculator je senang.
  • Currency conversion chart - basically ni mcm buku sifir.u create conversion table from VD to MYR for easy reference time shopping.
  • Baju sejuk or sweater or wind breaker - sbb masa I pegi ni cuaca dia agak sejuk. I've checked the temperature, it would be around 14 deg Celcius. Ini sgt sejuk okay! Masa kat UK dulu if temp around ni pn dh rase sejuk x tahan.
  • Camera - to capture for best moments!

6) Other Tips for Travelling in Hanoi or other places in Vietnam
  • Cab - Take Vinasun. Cab Vinasun is the most reliable cab because it is a metered-cab and the driver also is competent.
Picture taken from Google
  • Do not ever show your wallet in front of the taxi driver / salesperson..they tend to grab your wallet and cakap diorg nak tolong cari duit/note yg betul..so, please be careful..u are advised to put your money inside your pocket or make sure your wallet is always close to you..kalau bleh jgn bwk handbag, bwk sling bag aje ckup.

  • Bargain for 60-70% less. Yes, please bargain as much as you can. Biasanya peniaga ni akan letak hrga 3-4 kali ganda lg mahal..walaupn kite rase kite dh tawar hbis dh..tp sebenarnya harga tu masih mahal lg sbb mungkin duit kita lg besar drpd duit diorg

That's all for now.

Nnt dah smpi Hanoi I will update again!
